Event description

UB30: Twenty Lakes Challenge is a unique self-supported bikepacking event where navigation is as important as endurance. Instead of following a fixed GPX track, riders must visit a series of mandatory waypoints while creating their own route between them, turning the event into a strategic challenge as much as a physical one.

Starting and finishing in Železná Ruda, Czechia, the event offers a 1,100 km flagship route alongside two shorter 800 km options. For the 2026 edition, riders explore the natural and cultural highlights of Šumava, Bavaria, the Berchtesgaden Alps, and Austria’s Salzkammergut region, passing iconic landmarks such as Passau, Hallstatt, Neuschwanstein Castle, and Munich.

Adding another layer to the challenge, participants must complete several mandatory gravel sectors while remaining free to choose their own roads between checkpoints. The result is a different ride for every competitor, where route planning, climbing strategy, and efficient decision-making can be just as decisive as fitness.

UB30 follows a strict self-supported philosophy. Riders are responsible for their own navigation, resupply, accommodation, and mechanical repairs, with no outside assistance permitted. Every choice—from the fastest line to the next waypoint to where to sleep—shapes the overall experience.

Blending strategic navigation, stunning alpine scenery, and the freedom to create your own adventure, UB30: Twenty Lakes Challenge offers a refreshing twist on the traditional bikepacking race and stands out as one of Central Europe’s most original ultra-distance events.
