The Japanese Odyssey is an unsupported cycle adventure. It means that the organisation doesn’t provide any support, and that private support or assistance is prohibited. Once you cross the starting line, you are truly on your own.
We want to ensure equal opportunity for all riders, either local or non-Japanese. This means pre-arranged support are not allowed. You may eat, sleep, and service your bike at places also available to the other riders or at commercial shops. The Japanese Odyssey is a demanding adventure. And yet, it is not a race. There won’t be any ranking, nor official finishing times. Successful riders will be those who accomplish the whole course within 13 days.
Some riders will try to reach the finish line as fast as possible, challenging themselves to the extreme. Others will ride for the sheer pleasure of making it to the finish line. As long as you cross the finish line in time while having passed all the mandatory segments and checkpoints, you’re a finisher.
