Monaco di Baviera Lite II takes riders from Munich into the heart of the Alps, linking some of the region’s most iconic climbs with scenic valleys and dedicated cycling paths. Designed as a more accessible alternative to the Monaco di Baviera Classic, the event retains the same self-supported spirit while offering different route options depending on how ambitious riders want their challenge to be.
The base route covers approximately 850 km with 13,000 metres of elevation gain. Riders can extend the journey through optional Explorer Point sectors, increasing the distance to around 1,050 km and 20,500 metres of climbing. The route crosses Austria, touches Switzerland and ventures into northern Italy before returning to Munich.
Highlights include Passo dello Stelvio via Umbrailpass, Passo Giovo, Passo delle Erbe, Passo Furcia and the legendary Großglockner High Alpine Road. The latter climbs through 36 hairpins to the Hochtor at 2,504 metres. Other sections follow the Val Venosta cycling path, the Zillertal valleys and the shores of Lake Achensee.
Riders have 136 hours to complete the challenge and must collect at least 20 Explorer Points to qualify as finishers. The event is fully self-supported, with no drafting or outside assistance permitted. Participants can ride solo or in teams of two, three or four, managing their own food, accommodation, repairs and recovery along the way.
