Event description

NorthCape4000 is a 4,000-kilometre road ultra from Rovereto in northern Italy to the North Cape — the northernmost point accessible by road in Europe, on the Arctic island of Mageroya in Norway — crossing eight countries and covering some of the most varied terrain on the continent. It is one of Europe's most established long-distance road cycling challenges, now in its ninth edition in 2026. Riders start in the Italian pre-Alps and immediately face the first significant climbing challenge, crossing into Austria, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland before entering Norway and heading north above the Arctic Circle to the cliff-top finish at Nordkapp, 307 metres above the sea. The route passes through the Alps, the Scandinavian fjords, the Finnish lakeland, and the Norwegian Arctic tundra — an environmental diversity that makes even experienced ultra-cyclists feel they have completed a genuine journey rather than just a long ride. A Berlin start option reduces the distance to approximately 3,000 kilometres for riders who want the Nordic Arctic experience without the full Italian crossing. The summer timing is essential — the North Cape is only accessible by road from around May to October, and the late July start ensures riders arrive at Nordkapp in the period of the midnight sun, often riding the final section in brilliant golden light at midnight. Organised by Transbike Adventures (Andy Buchs), the event has a strong international field and a reputation as one of the most logistically ambitious road ultras in the world.
