Transpyrenees is an unsupported, non-stop road cycling challenge organised by Transibérica Ultracycling. The route crosses the Pyrenees from the Atlantic coast to the Mediterranean, taking riders over some of the mountain range’s most iconic climbs.
The 2027 edition starts in San Sebastián and covers approximately 1,124 km with 27,500 metres of elevation gain. Along the way, riders tackle 34 mountain passes, including the Col d’Aubisque, Col du Tourmalet, Col d’Aspin and Col de Peyresourde. The highest point is the Col de Tramassel at 1,630 metres.
Around half of the route runs through Spain, with the remainder crossing the French side of the Pyrenees. Although primarily a road event, the course includes two short gravel sections totalling approximately seven kilometres. A road bike with wider tyres is recommended.
Transpyrenees follows a single-stage format: the clock runs continuously from the start to the finish, including time spent eating, resting or sleeping. Riders must manage their own food, accommodation, navigation and mechanical issues, without outside assistance. Participants can enter solo or as a pair.
There is a final classification, but no prize for the fastest rider. The main achievement is completing this demanding crossing of the Pyrenees within the seven-day time limit.
Based on this event's terrain, difficulty and riding style you might like these ultra events.
Transpyrenees covers 1124 km with 27500 m of climbing along the way — a steadily rolling profile from start to finish.
Transpyrenees's terrain calls for a Endurance Road Bike, ideally running 30-35mm Tubeless tires. On the drivetrain side, a 46/30T-50/34T (2x) chainring matched to a 10-36T cassette gives enough range for the climbing involved.
We rate Transpyrenees as Extreme overall. Riders should be ready for mostly smooth, fast-rolling surfaces, relentlessly mountainous, climbing almost the entire way elevation gain, and mild and generally comfortable conditions.
Mark your calendar for June 27, 2027 — Transpyrenees's summer timing means with long daylight hours, though heat can become a real factor.
Surface-wise, expect road throughout Transpyrenees — 30-35mm Tubeless tires are a safe bet.
