Event description

The Hellenic Mountain Race is one of the most demanding and breathtaking ultra-distance events in Europe — a true test of endurance through the rugged Pindus Mountains of Greece. Covering roughly 883 kilometers with nearly 28,000 meters of elevation gain, this self-supported adventure begins beneath the towering cliffs of Meteora, where ancient monasteries watch over the riders as they roll into the wild. From the very start, the route throws you into steep gravel climbs, rocky descents, and remote mountain passes that demand both strength and patience.

The terrain is constantly shifting — from fast dirt tracks and tarmac links to brutal hike-a-bike sections that cut through dense forests and forgotten trails. Resupply points are rare and far apart, meaning every decision counts. Riders navigate through the checkpoints at Smolikas, Melissourgi, and Karpenisi, before finally descending toward the coast to reach the finish line in Nafpaktos, a historic port town overlooking the Gulf of Corinth.

This race isn’t about speed or comfort — it’s about resilience. It’s long days under the sun, freezing nights in the mountains, and moments of silence where the landscape swallows everything else. The Hellenic Mountain Race captures the essence of what ultra cycling is all about: raw effort, solitude, and the unfiltered beauty of discovering just how far you can go.
