Event description

Race Around Poland is a self-supported ultra-cycling event circumnavigating the full perimeter of Poland, following the country's borders through eight neighbouring countries: Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, and the Baltic coast. The full-distance course covers 3,600 kilometres with 33,100 metres of elevation gain — a substantial climbing total that reflects the route's passage through the Tatra Mountains, the Sudetes, the Carpathians, and the forested lake regions of northeastern Poland. Starting and finishing in Warsaw, the course traces Poland's outer edge on a mix of road and gravel surfaces, passing through the most diverse and historically complex border regions in Central Europe: the Tatra highlands shared with Slovakia, the industrial history of Silesia, the forests of the Bialowieza (home to the last wild European bison herd), the Baltic dune coast, and the Masurian lake district. The historical depth of the border regions through which the route passes — territories that changed hands multiple times through the twentieth century — gives Race Around Poland a cultural dimension that goes well beyond most ultra-cycling events. The June start offers the best combination of long days and tolerable temperatures. At 3,600 kilometres, this is one of the longest national circuit races in the world and a genuine benchmark for European road and gravel ultra-endurance cycling.
