The Traka is one of Europe’s best-known gravel cycling events, bringing riders from around the world to Girona, Catalonia, for a multi-day celebration of gravel racing. Organised by Klassmark, the event explores the varied terrain surrounding Girona, combining fast gravel roads, forest tracks, rocky trails and challenging climbs through the Catalan countryside.
Starting and finishing at Parc de les Ribes del Ter in Girona, the routes take riders through the diverse landscapes of the Empordà region and the surrounding countryside. Expect a mixture of flowing gravel tracks, forest roads, rural lanes and technical sections, with constantly changing terrain and punchy climbs.
The 2027 edition features three main distances: 100 km, 200 km and 300 km. The longest route covers approximately 300 km with 4,150 metres of elevation gain and around 80% unpaved terrain, making it a demanding test of endurance and gravel riding skills.
The Traka combines competitive racing with a strong international gravel community. Feed zones and designated assistance areas provide opportunities for riders to refuel and receive mechanical support under event regulations. The 300 km course has a 20-hour cut-off, requiring careful pacing and preparation.
Beyond the racing, the event has become a major gathering for the gravel cycling scene, attracting professional athletes, amateur riders and bikepacking enthusiasts. With Girona’s cycling culture, Mediterranean atmosphere and extensive network of gravel roads, The Traka offers an outstanding opportunity to experience one of Europe’s premier gravel destinations.

A Gravel Bike is the right tool for The Traka. Set it up with 45-50mm Tubeless rubber and gear it low — a 38-40T (1x) chainring and 10-51T cassette will keep you spinning on the steeper sections.
Expect a Moderate-tier challenge at The Traka — fairly flat climbing over rough, technical terrain for a good stretch of the route, with mild and generally comfortable weather typical for the time of year.
Mark your calendar for April 30, 2027 — The Traka's spring timing means when weather can still be unpredictable, so a flexible kit is worth packing.
The Traka runs primarily on gravel, and we'd recommend 45-50mm Tubeless tires to handle it comfortably.
