Unbound

UNBOUND Gravel is one of the defining events of the global gravel cycling scene, bringing thousands of riders to Emporia, Kansas, for a demanding journey through the Flint Hills. First held in 2006, the event has grown from a grassroots 200-mile race into a multi-distance gravel festival, attracting riders from around the world to experience the region’s rugged backroads.

The flagship 200-mile (322 km) course takes riders deep into the Flint Hills, across rolling prairie, open grassland and remote gravel roads. The terrain is notoriously demanding: rough, unmaintained surfaces, exposed sections and unpredictable Kansas weather can turn the roads into deep mud after rain. The route is not marked, so riders navigate using GPS and must be prepared to manage their own progress across the course.

UNBOUND offers five distances: 25, 50, 100, 200 and 350 miles, with the XL distance extending the challenge beyond 350 miles. The event combines competitive racing with a wider celebration of gravel culture, bringing together elite athletes, endurance riders and newcomers in downtown Emporia. More than a race, it is an opportunity to experience the landscape and community that helped shape modern gravel cycling.
