Ultra Events

This ultra cycling events directory covers fixed-route gravel races, free-route ultra-distance challenges.

Filter by terrain, distance, and elevation to find a race that matches your fitness and experience, or switch to the map view to see what’s running near you and when.

Not sure where to start? Riders new to the format often begin with something in the 200-400km range, like District 16 or Flaty888, before stepping up to 1000km+ fixed-route events. Once you’ve found a race, use the pace calculator to set a realistic daily target and the field manual to prep for the parts that don’t show up in a route description.

Fixed-route or free-route

Fixed-route events give you a set GPX track and ask you to follow it as fast — or as steadily — as you can. This is the more common format and generally the easier one to plan for, since your resupply points and terrain are known in advance. Free-route races, like the Transcontinental, only give you mandatory checkpoints and leave the path between them up to you. They demand more route planning but reward riders who like building their own strategy.

Supported or self-supported

Most events on this list are self-supported: you carry your own gear, source your own food and water, and handle mechanicals without outside help. A smaller number are supported, with a dedicated crew managing logistics so you can focus on riding. Check each event’s rules carefully, since the line between the two can vary — some allow limited resupply from shops and huts, others don’t.

What to look for in this ultra cycling events directory

Distance and elevation only tell part of the story. Look at the time limit relative to the route, the climate and season, and how remote the resupply points actually are. A 500km race in high summer heat demands different preparation than a 500km race through cool alpine terrain. This ultra cycling events directory is updated regularly as new races are announced and existing routes change, so it’s worth checking back before you lock in a season plan. Read the field manual before you sign up for anything that pushes past your current experience level, and use the pace calculator to sanity-check whether the time limit is realistic for you.
